Use this checklist to preserve condition evidence, key-return records, a forwarding address, and the dates that may affect your deposit return.
Before you leave
- Save your lease, addendums, and rent payment history.
- Address items you are responsible for and can handle safely, such as removing trash or completing agreed cleaning.
- Take close-up photos of existing wear, such as scuffs or faded paint, and preserve the original files.
Move-out day

- Photograph meters/utility status if relevant.
- Return keys and get written proof.
After move-out
- Send your forwarding address (template: forwarding address letter).
- Estimate the return period with the deadline calculator.
